You may be right -- However converting TABS does not change to 
"appearance" of the source file
either for RUBY or any other text reading program.

It simply avoids the UNEVEN INTERPRETATION 'TABS' by various programs.

I would assume that any source control system allows for nsertion 
filters into the source input
processing - It could be taken care of automatically.

of course it is jist my opinion,
  and I alway say --- OPINIONS DIFFER!
